Scorpil represents Iowa Wesleyan at nationals
Tiger freshman advances via forfeit in consolation round, falls to two ranked wrestlers

WICHITA — Iowa Wesleyan’s Lane Scorpil was in Wichita over the weekend for the 2023 NAIA national wrestling tournament. Scorpil had a 1-2 weekend, winning his only match via forfeit.
Scorpil, who earned his spot with a second-place finish at the Heart of America tournament, had to start the 125-pound bracket against second-ranked Brandon Orum of Life University. Orum would go on to win the national championship.
Scorpil was scheduled to wrestle against John Ortegon of Wayland Baptist University in the consolation round, but Scorpil would advance via forfeit.
In his second consolation match, Scorpil faced off against #16 Diago Hernandez of Ottawa University. Scorpil lost a heartbreaker, falling 9-7 in sudden victory overtime.
Grand View University won the NAIA team title for the 11th time in 12 years, scoring 206 points. Life University was the only other school within 100, as they came second with 157.5 points.
