WILLIAMSBURG — The 2021-22 girls basketball season ended for Washington High School on Saturday. The Demons couldn’t muster enough offense in a Class 3A Region 5 game at Williamsburg, falling 42-24.
The Demons played good defense in the first half but the shots just weren’t falling. Williamsburg outscored Washington 8-5 after one quarter and held a 17-8 lead at halftime.
Washington scored eight points in each of the last two periods, but Williamsburg’s offense improved as well, putting up a game-high 16 in the third and tacking on nine more in the final eight minutes.
Alex Murphy led the Demons with nine points in the loss. Kaylin Long scored four. Taylor Bartholomew finished with three. Elyse Hunt, Maci Williams and Lauren Hinrichsen chipped in two apiece.
Washington finished its season at 3-18. Williamsburg (13-9) advanced to the regional semifinals, where they will play at West Marshall (21-2).
Lone Washington senior Elyse Hunt looks for a pass on the Friday Jan. 21 against Mt. Pleasant. The Demons fell 48-37 in the matchup. (Hunter Moeller/The Union)
