Fairfield’s Cason Miller, Washington’s Aaron Boone named Co-Wrestler’s of the Year

The Southeast Conference wrestling season has come and gone, which means it time for another list of All-Conference wrestlers.
This season, Mt. Pleasant finished as the top team in the standings. The Panthers finished 5-0 in head-to-heads. Fort Madison followed 4-1, Fairfield ended 3-2, Burlington 2-3, Washington 1-4 and Keokuk 0-5.
Aside from team standings, there were plenty of stellar individuals.
Fairfield leads the individual numbers, with six wrestlers earns all-conference honors. Washington follows the Trojans with five selections, while Mt. Pleasant finishes with three.
The Trojans and Demons also have Co-Wrestler of the Year honors as Cason Miller and Aaron Boone get the distinction.
For Fairfield, Cael McCabe is a first team selection at 113. McCabe made another deep run at the state tournament this year. While he didn’t get back to the state championship match, the junior lost just one match at the tournament, good enough for a third-place finish. McCabe ended with a record of 37-3.
The next Trojan on first team is Aiden Westercamp at 138. Westercamp finished the season 24-21, but missed out on the state tournament have finishing fourth at districts. However, Westercamp was still one of the best 138 pounders in the SEC.
Fairfield’s Cason Miller earned a trip to the state tournament all four years. After finishing fourth last year at state, Miller ended his high school career seventh this go around at 157. Miller posted a record of 39-4 this year.
At 175 for Fairfield is Dain Burkhart. Burkhart closed his season with three state tournament wins and a record of 39-6. It turned out to be Burkhart’s best season as a Trojan.
Dre Smithburg is another Trojans state tournament qualifier on first team. At 215, Smithburg won one match at state. Smithburg only got better as his career progressed. He ends with a record of 42-7.
The lone Trojan on second team is Zandrik Allison, who closed with a 37-16 record. Allison punched his first ticket to the state tournament as well. He failed to get a tournament win, but will look to get even better next season.
One of Washington’s three first teams selections is Aaron Boone at 132. Boone got back to state for the third straight time and posted his best finish in his final go. Boone won five matches, losing just one, on his way to a third-place finish. Boone went 50-4 this season.
Washington’s Jude Carter gets on the list at 144. Carter put together one of his best seasons. He finished the season at 25-5, but suffered a no contest in the district final to keep him out of state.
Blaine Rees is the final Demon on first team at 165. Rees showed a lot of improvement this season. He just narrowly missed state after finishing third at districts. Rees concluded his season with a record of 38-12.
On second team for Washington is Nate Edmonds at 113 and Greyson Hartman at 215.
Edmonds put together a stellar final season. He finished his season with one win at districts, closing out a record of 35-13. Hartman finished his season with a fourth-place finish at districts. Hartman won two matches in the district meet, ending his campaign at 29-12.
Mt. Pleasant’s three first team selections are Lane Beckler at 126, Ramzy Davis at 150 and Payton Walker at 190.
All three Panthers finished their seasons with a third-place finish at districts. The trio spearheaded a lot of Mt. Pleasant success as a team this season as well.
Beckler closed with a record of 23-11, Davis 27-13 and Walker 25-11.
