Friday is set with yet another full slate of Southeast Conference boys and girls basketball matchups.
The second week of SEC contests features many enticing ones as the conference title races continue to heat up.
For the Union area’s Washington and Fairfield teams, it’s a big week as the two will face off with one another at Fairfield.
Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant is set to take on Fort Madison at home.
On the boys’ side, Washington and Fairfield will both be looking to end a three game slide as Fairfield is coming off a 60-34 loss to Ottumwa and Washington fell to Pella 90-36.
One of those two will also pick up their first SEC win of the year. In week one, Washington was defeated by Keokuk and Fairfield by Fort Madison.
The Panthers boys have lost their last two and will be looking to get back into the win column as well. Most recently, the Panthers fell to Cedar Rapids Xavier 54-39.
Currently, the Panthers are 1-0 in league play. The 2022 conference champions will be hoping to get a jump on the Bloodhounds, who are also 1-0 in the conference standings.
Keokuk is also 1-0 in conference play. The Chiefs will take on Burlington, who is 0-1, at home.
For the SEC girls, Washington and Fairfield will be playing to end losing streaks. One of the two will also notch their first SEC win of the year.
The Demons have lost back-to-back games, most recently Pella, 49-18, and then Keokuk 60-32 on Friday.
Fairfield still is searching for its first victory of the season. The Trojan were edged by Ottumwa on Tuesday, 40-36, and fell to Fort Madison, 55-19, in their first SEC matchup of the season.
Mt. Pleasant enters its matchup against Fort Madison off a loss to Oskaloosa, 55-17. A win for the Panthers would be their first conference victory of the season as they fell against Burlington in week one.
Keokuk, 1-0, will take on Burlington, 1-0, in the other SEC battle.
