It’s yet another stack lineup of Southeast Conference basketball Friday night as the league title races continue to heat up.
This week, Mt. Pleasant and Washington are set to meet up on the hardwood in Washington, while Fairfield will play host to Keokuk.
For the Mt. Pleasant boys, it’s a big conference game as a win would keep their undefeated conference streak alive at 3-0. The Panthers topped Fort Madison a week ago, 52-50, to move to 2-0 in league play.
The Panthers have won two in a row coming into Friday’s matchup.
Washington meanwhile will be looking for back-to-back SEC victories and a win would move them right into the top of the standings, barring a Keokuk loss as the Chiefs are also 2-0 through two weeks of action.
For that to happen, the Demons will need some help from Fairfield, who is currently searching for its first conference win.
The Trojans fell to Washington last week, 79-56. Keokuk comes in on a bit of a hot streak, winning four of its last five to begin the season.
In the other SEC game, Burlington will take on Fort Madison. Fort Madison is currently tied with Washington at 1-1, while Burlington sits at 0-2.
On the girls’ side of things, Washington and Mt. Pleasant are set to do battle in a big conference clash.
Washington can move to 2-1 in the SEC with a win over the Panthers, while Mt. Pleasant still is looking for its first league win of the year at 0-2.
The Demons grabbed their first victory last week after a down to the wire comeback win at Fairfield, 43-40.
Mt. Pleasant suffered a loss to Fort Madison last time around, 38-12.
Currently, Fort Madison and Keokuk are standing alone at the top of the rankings with 2-0 records.
Fairfield can create some havoc when it goes for its first victory of the season against Keokuk Friday night. The Chiefs come in on a five-game winning streak. They took down Burlington last week 80-43.
In the other conference bout, Fort Madison will take on Burlington. The Grayhounds can move up in the rankings as a win would pushed their record to 2-1.
While its still early, the next couple of weeks are integral for those teams that are competing for the SEC crown.
The current standings are as follows:
Southeast Conference Boys Standings
Keokuk 2-0
Mt. Pleasant 2-0
Fort Madison 1-1
Washington 1-1
Fairfield 0-2
Burlington 0-2
Southeast Conference Girls Standings
Fort Madison 2-0
Keokuk 2-0
Washington 1-1
Burlington 1-1
Mt. Pleasant 0-2
Fairfield 0-2
