Friday is bringing yet another week of enticing matchups throughout the Southeast Conference.
Once again all SEC boys and girls will be in action with some conference implications on the line.
One of the bigger matchup coming into Friday is none other than the matchup on the boys’ side between Mt. Pleasant (8-3, 4-1) and Fairfield (4-5, 2-3).
The Panthers currently sit at the top of the SEC rankings.
Mt. Pleasant has been on a roll as of late, winning three straight. The Panthers lone conference loss came against Burlington with a 56-54 final.
For Fairfield, a win could get the Trojan back in the running for the top of the conference.
Fairfield enters this week off a loss to Washington, but prior to that, the Trojans downed Centerville and Keokuk.
Speaking of the Demons (5-5, 4-1), they will head down to Keokuk (4-6, 0-4) to face the Chiefs.
A big opportunity awaits as a Demon win and a Mt. Pleasant loss would propel Washington to the top of the league.
Washington enters the contest off a loss to Burlington Notre Dame on the road. The Demons had won a pair prior to the loss.
The other two conference games will be play between Burlington (9-3, 3-1) and Fort Madison (3-6, 1-4)
Burlington is right up at the top of the conference along with Mt. Pleasant and Washington. They fell to the Demons.
The Grayhound have played one less conference game then the two latter.
A win for Fort Madison would keep the Bloodhounds in the running, but they need some help from the top teams as well.
On the girls’ side, Mt. Pleasant (6-7, 3-2) and Fairfield (2-9, 2-4) will square off in Fairfield.
Mt. Pleasant and Fairfield currently hold the fourth and fifth spots in the SEC.
A win for the Panthers would help then jump up in the rankings along with losses by Keokuk, Washington and Fort Madison.
Mt. Pleasant enters with weeks contest off a victory over Holy Trinity Catholic. Before that game, the Panthers came up just short to top seeded Fort Madison, 24-19.
Fairfield comes in off a tough loss to Washington, 66-33. They got their second win of the season over Van Buren County before the loss.
Washington (3-2, 6-4) can make a leap with a victory over Keokuk (6-5, 3-1). A win would put the Demons into second in the conference.
The Demons come into the Friday night matchup off a loss to No. 10 (Class 1A) Notre Dame.
In other action, top seeded Fort Madison (8-3, 4-1) will take on last seeded Burlington (2-6, 0-4)
Fort Madison can hold the top spot with a win, while the Grayhounds are looking to secure their first conference victory.
