The Southeast Conference girls basketball race looks like it’s about to heat up, as the league moves into 2025 with Friday night’s full slate.
Each SEC girls basketball team has played three of its 10 scheduled conference games, and right now, it’s Fort Madison leading the way.
The Bloodhounds have had three double-digit wins so far, beating Union area teams Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant handily. Fort Madison knocked off Fairfield 54-21, and Mt. Pleasant 63-34, which set up a meeting of 2-0 teams in Burlington.
Fort Madison went into Burlington on Dec. 20, winning 49-39 to move into first place alone.
Burlington and Keokuk are both one game behind the Bloodhounds, sitting at 2-1. Keokuk’s only loss was a one-point defeat at the hands of the Grayhounds. Alongside those two squads are the Washington Demons.
Washington, now 2-1 after wins against rivals Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant, has a shot to move into first place on Friday night. The Demons host Fort Madison in Game 1 of a girl-boy doubleheader on the Southeast Iowa Live Facebook and YouTube pages.
Both Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant go into Friday night winless. The Trojans will host Burlington, while the Panthers host Keokuk.
