FAIRFIELD — In the past four years, Carley Seeley has risen in the ranks on the Fairfield cross-country and track and field teams. Next year she’ll start the process anew on the collegiate level.
Seeley signed her letter of intent to attend and run cross-county and track at Cornell College on Monday. She signed her letter alongside family and coaches at the Fairfield High School gym lobby.
“I'm super excited to be a Ram,” said Seeley. “It's just so many things about Mount Vernon, and I'm excited to call it home.”
Seeley said she took her time to make the decision, before finally deciding on Cornell after her senior cross-country season and before her senior track year.
“It actually took me a really long time to make this decision,” Seeley said. “I knew I wanted it to feel like home, and I wanted it to feel like a family.”
Seeley is coming off her first ever state qualification in cross-country. She finished 66th in the Class 3A race this fall.
“I think consistency and dedication played a huge role,” Seeley said. “And obviously, having amazing coaches and phenomenal teammates around me the entire time played a big impact in my success.”
While at Cornell, Seeley plans on majoring in Secondary Education and minoring in Psychology with an emphasis on mental health. She also wants to study abroad, listing Greece as her number one country of choice.
Seeley and the rest of the Trojan track and field team will begin indoor track season in early spring.
