SEISC baseball teams announced
The Southeast Iowa Super Conference released its list of All-Conference performers last week, and a number of area athletes were given postseason recognition.
Highland led the way among area teams by having seven named to the postseason team (check out last Friday?s issue of The Journal for that story), while Iowa Mennonite had the other first-team selection among the local teams.

The Southeast Iowa Super Conference released its list of All-Conference performers last week, and a number of area athletes were given postseason recognition.
Highland led the way among area teams by having seven named to the postseason team (check out last Friday?s issue of The Journal for that story), while Iowa Mennonite had the other first-team selection among the local teams.
Payton Miller earned first-team honors in his final year for IMS, leading the team with a .356 batting average.
Miller also finished the season with 16 RBIs and 10 walks, giving him an on-base percentage of .453.
Miller was also strong on the mound this season for IMS, starting seven games and posting a 3.09 ERA despite a 2-5 record. He struck out 37 in 45 1/3 innings, and finished the year with a WHIP of 1.43.
Joining Miller in postseason recognition was IMS junior Tobyn Bender, who earned second-team honors as an infielder.
Bender led the team with 19 RBIs on the year, batting .297 during a strong junior season.
He drew 10 walks on the season, driving his on-base percentage up to .444, while finishing second on the team with four doubles.
Rounding out the IMS selections to the conference teams, senior Kirby Shetler and sophomore Drake Brezina were each given honorable mention selections.
Shetler led the team with 25 runs on the year, notching the only IMS homerun on the year and batting .295 as the team?s primary leadoff batter.
Shetler stole 12 bases on the year, and drew 10 walks for IMS.
Brezina finished just behind Shetler in runs, scoring 22 on the season while batting .292.
The IMS sophomore led the team with 19 stolen bases and 15 walks, driving his on-base percentage up to .452 on the season.
He also led the team with two triples and five doubles, before IMS saw their season end with a 7-16 record.
WACO earns four selections
The WACO Warriors had multiple memorable moments this season, including the team?s first win since 2009.
That year helped four members of the squad earn postseason recognition, with two second-team and two honorable mention selections.
Gabe Black was honored as a second-team catcher for the All-SEISC team, after posting an on-base percentage of .486 on the year.
Black had nine RBIs and finished tied for the team lead in runs with 14.
He batted .288 on the season and stole seven bases.
BJ Rodgers joined Black on the All-Conference second team as a utility player, after batting .284 for the season.
Rodgers drew 12 walks to move his on-base percentage up to .415, while finishing the year with 14 runs. He led the team with 19 hits on the season and stole a team-high 16 bases.
Earning honorable mention honors were junior Justyn Chalupa and eighth-grader Matt Leichty.
Chalupa batted .273 on the season and finished the season with an on-base percentage of .437.
Chalupa scored 14 runs while batting in seven on the year, in addition to stealing nine bases for the Warriors.
Leichty was strong in his first year for the Warriors, batting .259 and leading the team with 10 RBIs.
Leichty also knocked 14 hits for the Warriors who went 3-21 this season.
