SEISC Girls All-Conference teams announced

With the girls high school basketball season now officially closed, it’s time to look back this years top players from the Southeast Iowa Super Conference from the 2021-22 season.
It was a great season for Union coverage area teams.
Winfield-Mt. Union, along with Mediapolis, led the SEISC North with a total of four players named to either first or second team all-conference.
Wolves Bradie Buffington and Keetyn Townsley were both given the first team distinction.
Buffington was dominant inside this season leading WMU, while averaging 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
Townsley ran the point for the Wolves. She averaged a second best 9.6 points along with 3.7 rebounds and an outstanding 3.4 steals per game.
Rounding out the Wolves on all-conference second team are Jobey Malone (8.8 points per game) and Melina Oepping (7.7 points per game).
WMU’s Keely Malone and Carlee Sloan were given Honorable Mention.
Highland junior guard Abigail Stransky is the lone Huskie voted to first team. Stansky led Highland averaging 12.8 points per game, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.
The Huskies Sarah Burton was named to second team. Burton put together a stellar sophomore campaign averaging 11.5 points and 9.0 rebounds.
Dani Laughlin and Jessica Kraus were named to the Honorable Mention list.
Kerrigan Pope represents Pekin on the first team list. Pope averaged 16.6 points per game and 8.6 rebounds in her senior season with the Panthers.
Hillcrest Academy and Columbus each had one player on the second team list.
Senior Hillcrest guard Esther Hughes led the Ravens in points per game and rebounds, averaging 15.1 points and 6.3 rebounds.
Raven’s Leah Bontrager and Malia Yoder were named Honorable Mention.
For Columbus, freshman Lily Coil was given a second team distinction. She is the sole freshman on either the first team or second team lists. Coil averaged 8.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.
Wildcats Libby White and Sara Vela were named to Honorable Mention.
For the SEISC North Division, Louisa-Muscatine’s Kaylee Corbin and Mediapolis’s Hallie Mohr were each named Co-Players of the Year.
Bulldogs head coach Todd Borrison was named Coach of the Year.
On the SEISC South side of things, just three Union area players were given first team or second team honors.
WACO’s Ellah Kissell represents the Warriors as a first team all-conference selection. Kissell averaged a conference second best 18.0 points per game, while also grabbing 6.4 rebounds and dishing out 2.3 assists.
Representing the Warriors on Honorable Mention are Grace Coble and Katie Leichty.
Cardinal’s Emma Becker and Van Buren’s Kadence Nusbaum are Union area players representing on the second team.
Becker, a sophomore, led the Comet’s in points, rebounds, and assists. She tallied 9.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game this season.
Nusbaum paced Van Buren averaging 8.8 points and 5.3 rebounds this season.
Representing Cardinal on the Honorable Mention list are Kinsey Hissem and Cynthia Albert. For Van Buren County, it’s Zoe Best and Ivy Davison.
New London had no players named to first or second team, but two were named to Honorable Mention.
New London’s Natalie Burden and Ashlyn McSorley were both Honorable Mention selections for the Tigers.
The SEISC South Division’s Player of the Year is Notre Dame’s Megan Harrell.
The Coach of the Year honors were given to late Notre Dame head coach Jim Myers.
