SEISC names boys All-Conference selections

Danville’s Monday afternoon loss in the first round of the state tournament marked the end of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference boys season. The loss means it’s now time to take a look at some of the top performers from the SEISC North and South this season, with this year’s All-Conference teams.
In the South Division, Union area teams Cardinal and New London have three players named to either first or second team. WACO has two and Van Buren one.
For New London, Blaise Porter, Kade Benjamin and Devin Swanson were all given an all-conference distinction.
Porter, a first-team selection, paced the Tigers 2021-22 campaign averaging 17.5 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.3 rebounds.
Porter was also named the SEISC South Player of the Year.
Benjamin also earned a first-team selection. He followed Porter in scoring, averaging 14.5 points a game, while pulling down 6.8 rebounds.
Swanson is the lone Tiger on the second-team roster. He averaged 14.0 points a game and 6.7 rebounds.
Representing Cardinal are Dawson Lewis, Griffin Greiner and Landon Becker. Lewis and Greiner were both named first-team, while Becker earned a second-team spot.
Lewis led the Comets in points and rebounds, averaging 15.1 points and 8.3 rebounds. Greiner tallied 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists. Becker averaged 10.5 points 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists.
Hunter Hughes and Simeon Reichenbach earned all-conference honors for WACO. Hughes, one of two sophomores on the list, made first-team and Reichenbach second-team.
Besides the players, WACO head coach Paul Kissell earned Coach of the Year honors for his stellar job this season.
Hughes led the Warriors in scoring and assists with 11.9 points per game and 3.3 assists.
Reichenbach was first in rebounding (5.6) and second in both scoring (9.7) and assists (2.8).
Van Buren’s Jackson Manning earned his first-team all-conference selection leading Van Buren County in points and rebounds. His 19.7 points per game were a SEISC South Division best, and second-best out of the SEISC as a whole. Manning also pulled down 6.2 rebounds a game.
On the SEISC North side, Winfield-Mt. Union and Hillcrest Academy and Pekin each have three players on the all-conference lists, followed by Highland with two.
The Wolves put together an outstanding 2021-22 season with sophomores Cam Buffington and Abram Edwards leading the way. Both were first-team all-conference selections.
Buffington showed out, averaging a double-double with 19.0 point per game and 10.2 rebounds. Edwards followed averaging 12.0 points a game, 9.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists.
The Wolves lone second-team selection is freshman Jake Edwards. He is one of two freshman on the lists.
Edwards averaged 7.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.6 rebounds.
Winfield head coach Klay Edwards was also selected as Coach of the Year.
For Hillcrest Academy, junior Grant Bender is the sole first-selection. Bender tallied 18.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Rounding out the Ravens on the second-team list are junior Luke Schrock and freshman Seth Ours.
Schrock averaged 9.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists this season and Ours scored 7.5 points per game.
The Pekin Panthers are represented by Luke Long and Colton Comstock on the first-team, while Chandler Stull represents on second-team.
Long averaged 13.9 points and 7.1 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Comstock scored 6.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Stull averaged 9.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists for a second-team selection.
Rounding out the North Division is Chase Schultz and Trevor McFarland for Highland.
Schultz earned a first-team selection averaging 12.2 points and 6.3 rebounds a game. McFarland tallied 8.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists for a place on second-team.
The Player of the Year for the North Division is Wapello’s Maddox Griffin. Griffin led the division in scoring, assists, and steals. He was second in rebounding.
Along with the first and second team all-conference selections, there is also the all-conference honorable mention list, where two players are selected from each school.
