Seniors help Mid-Prairie’s 2 triumphs

WELLMAN - It was Senior Night at Mid-Prairie Tuesday so Myah Lugar, Phelan Hostetler, Aidan Rath, Luke Boyse and Keagan Brady were feted and both the girls and boys Golden Hawk basketball teams got River Valley Conference wins over Tipton.
The Golden Hawk girls eked out a 38-33 victory while the boys demolished the Tigers 62-33.
The girls slogged through a first quarter for a lead of 8-3 but trailed 14-12 at the half. A 13-7 third-quarter advantage gave Mid-Prairie the separation it needed and a 25-21 lead starting the fourth quarter.
Mid-Prairie was out-rebounded 34-26 but had 13 turnovers to 24 for the visitors.
Hostetler scored 11 points with two rebounds and two steals. Lugar had six points, six rebounds, two assists and a block. Maddie Nonnenmann led Mid-Prairie with 13 points and added six rebounds, Amara Jones and Alyssa McDowell had four points apiece.
Mid-Prairie's girls are 8-7 overall and 8-6 RVC. Tipton is 4-9, 2-8.
Mid-Prairie's boys are 8-2, 8-3 while Tipton is 5-8, 3-8.
The Golden Hawks allowed just three points to Tipton's boys team in the first quarter while scoring 16 and led 28-15 at halftime. The third-quarter scoring salted the game away with a 24-9 edge, making it 52-24 starting the fourth.
Rath led all scorers with 14 points and all rebounders with eight. Brady hit a 3-pointer and blocked a shot. Boyse scored a two, had two rebounds, and two assists. Alex Bean and Carter Harmsen scored 10 points apiece. Will Cavanagh went for nine points and Jackson Pennington eight. Cavanagh, Pennington, Bean and Harmsen each passed out three assists. Harmsen had seven rebounds.
Both Mid-Prairie teams play at Camanche Friday.
