Serving sparks IMS in sweep of Wapello

The serving of Casey Perez and Keilah Brokaw lifted IMS to a 25-8 win in the first set of Tuesday?s Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division volleyball match against Wapello, and IMS also won the next two sets by scores of 25-21 and 26-24 to sweep the Arrows.
Perez served the first 11 points in the opening set, five of which were aces. Then Brokaw took over with five more aces, including two aces, and IMS (14-11, 5-2 SEISC North) had control of the first game.
?Wapello was not going to give up that easily, so I was thrilled that the team was fired up and ready to play tonight,? IMS head coach Cindy Miller said. ?Even though Wapello kept creeping back into the games, I was impressed with the team?s composure and confidence on the court. We worked together and kept serving tough until that final point.?
Perez was 18-for-19 serving with six aces, and Brokaw finished 11-for-12 with three aces. Junior Kristin Davis was 14-for-16 with four aces, and senior Laura Hochstetler chipped in three aces on 7-for-8 serving.
Junior Olivia Yutzy had 10 kills to lead IMS, and Hochstetler added nine kills. Perez had eight kills to go with 23 assists, and sophomore Hannah Miller chipped in four kills. Hochstetler had a team-high 18 digs in the match, while Perez, Davis and senior Naomi Miller added 11 apiece. Yutzy chipped in 10 digs.
IMS travels to Columbus on Thursday night for another league match.
