A second Mt. Pleasant golfer has made his decision on a college team this winter. Mt. Pleasant senior Bailey Shelledy signed his letter of intent to attend and play golf at Marian University, which is located in Fond du Lac, Wis.
'I wanted something a little bit smaller,” says Shelledy. 'I probably wouldn't have been able to play much for a bigger school, so I was looking for somwhere I could play (and) somewhere that feels a little more comfortable, like Mt. PLeasant does. I love it. It's a nice little community but it's got bigger cities around it. Shelledy has been a major part of the Panther golf team since he was a freshman, and helped the Panthers reach the state meet in 2017, which was his sophomore year.
'There was a long time where I didn't think I could play golf in college,” says Shelledy. 'I'm 5'10” and less than 120 pounds, so I wasn't sure if I had the physical set or the mental set to be playing in college. But coming after my junior year, I played through a hurt shoulder, so I kind of got confident. I sauid, ‘If I can play through that, I can play in college.'”
Shelledy is going to major in nursing when he gets to Marian. His plans are to eventually turn that in to an advanced degraa.
Shelledy signed his letter of intent in the Mt. Pleasant Media Center, surrounded by family, as well as head coach Rob Zeglen.
'Bailey has been very exciting to watch,” Zeglen says. 'He's a very hard worker (and) knows what part of his game works. It's just fun to watch him play golf.”
