Even with all-conference setter Casey Perez still out of the lineup after suffering a knee injury in a match on Oct. 9, IMS still was able to go on the road and sweep Lone Tree in Tuesday?s Class 1A regional opener.
Sophomore Hannah Miller dished out 21 assists to help IMS sweep the Lions by scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-14.
?Tonight was a great win for us because we were out of system and it is very hard to beat a team three times in a season,? IMS head coach Cindy Miller said. ?The responsibility of running the court was in Hannah Miller?s setting hands, and she really came through for us. I was proud of the effort she gave and how calmly she took on her responsibilities.?
IMS served 97 percent in the match, only missing two serves all night. Junior Olivia Yutzy went 21-for-22 with three aces, and Miller was 11-for-12. Senior Naomi Miller was a perfect 13-for-13 with an ace, and senior Keilah Brokaw was 12-for-12. Junior Kristin Davis went 9-for-9 with an ace.
Yutzy had 13 kills on the night to lead IMS offensively. Senior Laura Hochstetler added six kills, and senior Anya Slabaugh had four kills and three blocks.
Hochstetler and Davis had nine digs apiece, while Yutzy and Miller both added seven.
IMS (19-14) advances to Tuesday?s regional quarterfinal in Lone Tree, where it will meet Keota (11-11). Miller expects Perez to be back for that match.
