Panthers held to single digits in each quarter against Chiefs

KEOKUK — Mt. Pleasant girls basketball was bested 73-22 on the road against Keokuk Friday night.
Keokuk came out scorching hot through the first half and Mt. Pleasant could never get back into it as the Chiefs defense was suffocating.
The Chiefs scored a whopping 26 points in the first quarter, while giving up just seven. That sum tied the highest point total by the Panthers in the Southeast Conference clash.
Mt. Pleasant’s deficit grew through the second period as it notched just seven points once again. Keokuk meanwhile added 18 to its tally to make it 44-14 at the break.
Things continued to go awry in the third, as the Panthers -were outscored 17-2. Keokuk closed it out by taking the fourth 12-6.
Paityn Ensminger led the Panthers with six points in the loss.
Mt. Pleasant will be back on the court Monday to take on Ottumwa on the road.
