CENTERVILLE — It took a couple of tries to get the first score on the board. Once the board was lit, Sigourney-Keota kept adding to it Friday at Class 2A sixth-ranked Centerville.
The Class 1A No. 5 Cobras rolled to a 42-7 victory in a non-district football game behind Levi Crawford and Cade Molyneux, who scored three touchdowns apiece.
A would-be initial Cobra touchdown was erased by a penalty as was a second quarter big gainer. A Molyneux dive from the 1-yard line was marked down, then changed to a score for the 7-0 advantage with under 4 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Crawford made it 14-0 before the quarter ended.
The home team scored on a fourth-down pass play early in the second quarter but it was 28-7 at the half. With 9:30 remaining in the third quarter, Crawford caught a 53-yard touchdown from Colten Clarahan, who was 4-for-8 for yards for 102 yards and perfect 6-for-6 on extra points.
Molyneux rolled up 191 yards on 27 carries. Crawford totaled 122 yards on eight carries and 67 yards on two receptions.
Evan Dawson led the Cobra defense with 5.5 tackles and a solo tackle for loss. Cole Clarahan had an interception.
The Cobras are 3-0 and play Pleasantville (2-1) Friday for homecoming in the 1A District 6 opener. Centerville is 2-1.
