Friday night spelled the end of the Sigourney-Keota football season, and thereby the end of the year for Class 1A District 6.
This week, the district released its All-District lists, and as one would expect, the Cobras dominated the list.
Sigourney-Keota earned two major awards and led the league with 10 names on the first team. Cardinal had four first-teamers on the squad. Van Buren County didn’t have any first-teamers but placed three on the second team.
Sigourney-Keota’s Cade Molyneaux was named the offensive MVP. Molyneaux was the anchor of a dominating Cobra run game, and he finished the year with an incredible 1,990 yards and 26 touchdowns on the ground.
Molyneaux led the entire class in rushing yards and all-purpose yards. His 26 touchdowns were third in 1A.
Fellow senior Cade Streigle was given the district’s Gold Award. Streigle finished the year with 25 tackles on defense and caught one touchdown pass on offense.
The Cobras had four more players make the first team offense. Colten Clarahan made it as a running back, and was also chosen as the team’s kicker. Evan Dawson made the team in the full back/tight end slot, and both Zach Smithart and Aidan Schuster made the offensive line.
The Cobras had four players make the defensive squad. Evan Vittetoe and Connor Reed were named to the defensive line. Jack Clarahan made it as a linebacker, and Levi Crawford was named as a defensive back.
Cardinal’s Griffin Greiner won the Defensive MVP award after a ridiculous game on the defensive side of the ball.
Greiner led the Comets with 89 tackles on the year. He also had four takeaways, netting two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.
Greiner was also chosen as the first team’s returner.
Fellow senior Landon Becker joined Greiner on the first team defense, making the squad as a defensive back.
Cardinal wide receiver Blaine Bryant made the first team on offense. Quarterback Maddux Jones was given the utility player spot.
Sigourney-Keota had six second-team selections. Cardinal had five, and Van Buren County was close behind with three. Each team also had three honorable mentions.
