Sigourney-Keota stuns No. 1, WACO stays perfect

An action-packed Friday night of small school football saw Sigourney-Keota pull a massive upset, as WACO and Columbus continued their undefeated seasons.

Sigourney-Keota 15, No. 1 Pella Christian 13

The No. 1 team in Class 1A found out what it’s like to get bit by the snake pit in Sigourney, as the Cobras pulled out a massive win.

The Cobra defense allowed just six points in the first half, as Sigourney-Keota led 9-6 at the break, and 15-6 after three quarters. Pella Christian scored one late, but ran out of time.

The Cobra offense didn’t complete one pass in the win. Cole Clarahan ran for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Sawyer Stout ran for 88, and Isaac Bruns ran for 75.

No. 2 WACO 43, New London 14

One of Class 8-Player’s best stayed perfect after a dominant homecoming win against New London, a team that had been 3-0 in district play.

WACO led 28-0 at halftime and 43-8 after three quarters. Running back Simeon Reichenbach rumbled for 156 yards and two touchdowns and caught one as well.

Winfield-Mount Union 54, Lone Tree 14

The Wolves celebrated a homecoming win of their own as WMU handed Lone Tree its first loss in district play.

Cam Buffington ran fro 174 yards and three scores on offense, and collected his third pick-six of the season on defense. Abram Edwards ran for 58 yards and two scores, and also caught four passes for 65 yards.

Columbus 53, Pekin 28

A 22-point second quarter from hosting Pekin had Columbus on upset alert as the Panthers led 22-20 at halftime, but the Wildcats dominated the final two quarters to stay unbeaten.

Kaden Amigon was insane for the Wildcats, rushing for 302 yards and six touchdowns and also scoring on an 81-yard fumble recovery. Triston Miller rushed for 105 yards and a score.

Mid-Prairie 51, Central Lee 0

Only one team of Hawks was Golden as Mid-Prairie dumped Central Lee at home.

The Golden Hawk defense held the Hawks to just 88 yards of total offense. Collin Miller rushed for three touchdowns and threw for 111 yards to lead Mid-Prairie.

Alburnett 55, Highland 14

Highland outscored Alburnett 14-7 in the second half, but the damage had been done by then, as the Pirates popped the Huskies in Riverside.
