Sigourney-Keota, WACO stay in place in football rankings

There was little change for the area’s football teams in the Week 5 Gazette football poll. Two Union coverage area teams were ranked at the beginning of the week, and both have stayed put.
Sigourney-Keota continues to be the top-ranked area team. The Cobras sit at No. 5 in Class 1A. WACO is No. 10 in Class 8-Player for the second week in a row
Sigourney-Keota is coming off a monster win over Pella Christian. The Eagles were previously ranked No. 7 in The Gazette poll, but the Cobras knocked them back to No. 10 in the new rankings.
WACO defeated New London, a team that had been in the rankings for most of the year. The Warriors handed the Tigers their second loss in two weeks.
The Cardinal Comets are still receiving votes in the Class 1A poll. The Comets picked up three votes, good enough to put them two spots out of the Top-10. Cardinal will play Sigourney-Keota on Friday.
This week’s rankings offer no changes at the No. 1 spots. Ankeny, North Scott, Harlan, Southeast Valley, Van Meter, West Hancock and Anita CAM were all voted into the top spots, just the same as a week ago.
