Simpson, Trojans dominate All-SEC

It's no surprise that the 26-5 Fairfield Trojan varsity baseball team that shared a portion of the Southeast Conference title and was more recently crowned district champions before losing 3-2 Wednesday night at Muscatine to the No. 2 ranked Davenport Assumption Knights in the Class 3A substate-4 final, filled a large portion of the all-league teams released earlier this week. Four Trojans were named to the first-team, including player of the year, senior Austin Simpson.

Simpson batted .473 on the season, just a single point behind teammate Kosta Papazoglou for the team-lead. The senior also scored 40 runs after reaching base on 44 hits, drawing 17 walks, and getting hit by seven pitches. On top of hitting a Class 3A leading 16 homeruns, Simpson hit seven doubles which helped him drive in 49 RBIs, second in Class 3A. At 1.065, Simpson had the fourth highest slugging percentage in the state of Iowa and the highest of any player competing above Class 1A.
