PACKWOOD ? Another meet meant another win for the Pekin boys? track and field team Thursday at its own Pekin Invitational.
?It was the same story as our last meet,? said Pekin head coach Davis Eidahl. ?We?re strong in the field events and had good depth in the running events where we scored in all events.?
The Panthers scored 142 points to edge West Burlington in the team standings by four points. North Mahaska was third with 90 points. Led by seniors Bryce Sines and Derek Morales, Pekin won five events and was second in another five.
Morales won the shot put with a top throw of 49-feet, five-inches and was first in the discus at 144-feet, 1-inch. Sines won the high jump (6? 6?), long jump (20? 10.5?) and 200-meter dash (23.00). The senior sprinter also finished second in the 100-meter dash (11.00).
Other second-place individual finishes came from Jared Bond in the shot put (43? 8?) and Bailey Donovan in the discus (134? 3?). Pekin?s medley relay team of Quinton Garrels, Josh Sterling, Tyson Lamb and Eli Harper finished second (3:59), and the shuttle hurdle relay team consisting of Chase Earnest, Cory Loyd, Sterling and Jordan Hagedon also took second (1:06).
The Cardinal boys finished 11th in the 12-team field with 13 points. Maharishi School scored three points for 12th place.
The Panthers will be back in action Monday at the Coe Co-Ed in Marion.
