After a two-year absence, the coach who led both Washington and WACO's football programs to state prominence is returning to southeast Iowa.
Lloyd Sisco, who coached WACO from 1968 to 1982 and Washington from 1994 to 2001, has accepted the head football coaching position at Burlington High School for next fall.
Sisco currently lives in Lebanon, Mo., where he moved in 2002 to coach the town's high school team. After one season at Lebanon, Sisco spent the 2003 season as the defensive coordinator at North Iowa Area Community College, where his son, Tyler, was the head coach.
Sisco, who has 181 wins as a high school coach, and 82 more as a college coach, becomes just the sixth football coach in Burlington's history, taking over for Ron Glasgow, who resigned to become the high school's athletic director.
Last year, Burlington finished 2-7.
In his 14 years at WACO, Sisco had a 121-15 record and built one of the top programs in the state. Years later at Washington, Sisco led the Demons to the playoffs four times, including a trip to the state semifinals in 1997. In eight seasons, Sisco compiled a 51-26 record.
