Small school football: Six area teams look for playoff wins

No. 2 (8-player) WACO (9-0) vs. Martensdale-St. Marys (4-4)
For WACO the postseason begins with a matchup against the Blue Devils of Martensdale-St. Marys.
The Warriors have yet to be tested this season and they will look to continue that dominance through the playoffs.
Isaac Oswald lead the Warriors through the air with 1094 yards and 18 touchdowns. Oswald also had 117 yards on the ground.
Simeon Reichenbach has racked up the most yardage for the Warriors this year. He has carried the ball 112 times for 946 yards and 20 touchdowns. Reichenbach is averaging 8.4 yards a carry.
On the receiving end, Oleh Shtefanchuk leads with 14 catches for 340 yards and eight scores.
The Blue Devils are led by Cooper Oberbroeckling under center. He had 944 yards through the air and 11 touchdowns. Kade Mullins has 1209 yards and 20 touchdowns carrying the ball. Riley Nichols and William Denny have 417 and 416 yards receiving.
New London (6-3) at Gladbrook-Reinbeck (7-1)
New London will have a tough test in round one against the Rebels of Gladbrook-Reinbeck.
The Tigers come in off three straight wins and are riding high at the moment. They will need to keep that energy with a hard nosed Rebels squad.
Dom Lopez will be quarterbacking the Tigers. Lopez has 891 yards through the air and 15 touchdowns. Lopez has 529 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns as well.
Boden Pickle has 84 carries for 749 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.
Blaise Porter is the Tigers top receiver with 20 catches for 387 yards and five touchdowns.
For the Rebels, Isaac Clark leads the way with 1299 yards passing and 23 touchdowns. Austin Vaverka had 912 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns on 61 carries. He’s averaging 15 yards a carry. Luke Riffey has 18 catches for 476 yards and seven touchdowns.
Winfield-Mt. Union (6-3) at No. 3 (8-player) Don Bosco (7-0)
Winfield-Mt. Union has been battled tested throughout the regular season and on Friday night, the Wolves will be tested once again against the Dons of Don Bosco.
The Wolves earned a spot into the playoffs with a dominating victory over English Valleys, 71-8 and Don Bosco has yet to be beaten.
Cole Milks will lead the WMU offense. Milks had 723 yards passing and 11 touchdowns. Milks has 421 yards rushing and seven touchdowns as well.
Cam Buffington paces the Wolves on the ground with 1279 yards and 22 touchdowns. Abram Edwards has 25 catches for 337 yards and four scores to lead the receiving department.
Ty Purdy leads the Dons offensive attack with 885 yards passing and 15 touchdowns. Myles McMahon has 949 yards rushing with 16 touchdowns. Kaiden Knaack had 24 receptions for 369 yards and seven touchdowns.
Columbus (7-1) vs. Maquoketa Valley (5-3)
Columbus will open its postseason against the Wildcats of Maquoketa Valley. The Wildcats of Columbus enter the matchup off a tough overtime loss to Alburnett for the district title.
For Columbus, Jeff Hoback will play quarterback. Hoback has thrown just 13 times this season for 82 yards and one touchdown.
On the ground, Kaden Amigon has amassed 1498 yards and 22 touchdowns. Triston Miller follows with 790 yards and 12 scores.
TJ Cook leads the Maquoketa Valley offense with 490 yards passing and five touchdowns. Lance McShane has 1194 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. Brady Wall has 14 catches with 174 yard receiving and one touchdown.
Sigourney-Keota (6-2) vs. Sumner-Fredericksburg (4-4)
There’s been no hotter team in the area that Sigourney-Keota. The Cobras have won six straight since losing their first two of the season.
Sawyer Stout will lead the Cobras offense. Stout has 351 yards passing and seven touchdowns.
Cole Clarahan has accumulated 968 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground. Issac Bruns follows with 429 yards and three scores as well.
Cole Kindred has 150 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
Davis Van Sickle plays quarterback for the Cougars. Van Sickle has 679 yards passing and seven touchdowns. Kade Mitchell has 461 yards on the ground and six scores. Trace Meyer leads in receiving with 199 yards and one touchdown.
Mid-Prairie (5-3) at Northeast (4-4)
Mid-Prairie opens its postseason against River Valley Conference foe Northeast.
The Golden Hawks will look to down their conference foe to stay alive.
At quarterback, Collin Miller will be slated in the position. Miller has 623 yards passing and eight touchdowns.
Braden Hartley leads the ground game with 1172 yards and 13 touchdowns. Cain Brown has 22 catches for 411 yards receiving and five touchdowns.
Gavin Kramer is the Northeast quarterback. Kramer had 1623 passing yards and 19 touchdowns. Kramer also leads on the ground with 767 yards and nine scores. Jimmy Weispfenning has 39 catches for 655 yards and nine touchdowns.
