Small school golf: WMU, Columbus split
Columbus girls win on home course, WMU boys have big day

COLUMBUS JUNCTION — The Columbus golf teams hosted Winfield-Mount Union in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference showdown on Thursday. The Columbus girls and Winfield-Mount Union boys each picked up conference wins.
On the girls’ side, Columbus shot 268 to take down WMU. The Wildcats were led by a 56 form Hailey Wellington, and a 65 from Kinlee Brown.
Columbus’ Aracely Garza finished at 73. Jocelyn Hernandez ended at 74. Madeleine Howell shot 85, and Madelyn Payne finished at 98.
WMU was one score shot of a team total, having three golfers present. Afton Wilkerson was the top golfer for the Lady Wolves, shooting 63.
Lily Freeman finished with a 64 for the WMU girls. Ella Kann shot 74.
On the boys’ side, WMU outshot Columbus 182-212.
Carter Loyd led the Wolves with a 42. Max Edwards and Nick Sparrow were both close behind, shooting 46.
Sinjin Brown ended the day at 48 for WMU, as did Konner Kinneberg. Grant Anderson shot a 50.
Columbus’ Cael Phillips ended the day at 48. Cole Storm and Ryan Coil finished at 54.
Payton White and Mason Hardy each shot 56 for the Wildcats. Mason Heck ended the meet at 62.
