Some bad weather played an impact on a few area softball games early on this week, but the majority of games got in. Here are the final scores from Monday and Tuesday in area small school softball.
Monday, June 16
Wapello 7, Van Buren County 5
The Warriors fell in a back-and-forth Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover game.
Hillcrest Academy 11, New London/WMU 7
Hillcrest Academy won a wild offensive shootout in New London, beating the Tigers in a SEISC crossover game.
Holy Trinity Catholic 7, Highland 5
Highland went punch-for-punch with HTC, but came up two runs short, as the Crusaders scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the win.
Kayce Schnoebelen knocked in two runs for the Huskies and stole two bases. Kinzie Ruess was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Kamryn Fink had two hits, an RBI and two stolen bases.
No. 15 (3A) Central Lee 3, Pekin 1
Pekin hung with ranked Central Lee in crossover action, but couldn’t score enough runs to pull through.
Addison Smith had a good outing in the circle, giving up just two earned runs and striking out seven batters over a six inning start, while Myah Bainbridge had the team’s only RBI.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 5, Cardinal 1
The Comets couldn’t take out EBF in South Central Conference play.
Keota 9, Belle Plaine 1
Keota moved back above .500 with a dominant South Iowa Cedar League win over Belle Plaine. The Eagles scored seven runs in the first inning to break things open early.
No. 10 (2A) Wilton 8, Mid-Prairie 3
The Golden Hawks put up a challenge against the ranked Beavers, but couldn’t come away with a River Valley win.
Sophie Miller led Mid-Prairie offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Tuesday, June 17
Wapello 1, Columbus 0
Columbus junior Kennedy Woepking kept Wapello off balance all game long, but the Arrows were able to push one run across in the top of the seventh to steal the win.
Ellie Sanders led Columbus offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base.
Hillcrest Academy 9, Pekin 7
Hillcrest made it 2-for-2 in Union area play this week with another win in a back-and-forth affair. It was the Ravens’ third victory in SEISC North play.
