Small school vball: W-MU wins in five

Winfield-Mt. Union carried the load for the Henry County volleyball teams on Thursday night. All three of the county's small schools faced tough competition, but the Wolves were able to bring the area home a win, beating Iowa Mennonite in five sets.
W-MU and IMS traded punches all night. IMS won the first set 25-20, but the Wolves responded with back-to-back wins of 25-23 and 25-18. IMS forced a deciding fifth set with a 25-16 win in the fourth, but W-MU grinded out a win in the fifth, taking it 15-11.
Jenna Buffington led the Wolves with 13 kills. Liana Sweezer had 11 kills, and Anna Hudson finished with 10.
Kayla Edwards had 38 assists in the win. Kyndal Townsley had 39 digs. Buffington was second in digs, with 33.
The Wolves went 92-99 on the serve and finished with three aces. Buffington was 17-19 with three aces. Sabrina Moody was 20-20 with two aces. Carlee Sloan went 11-12 with one ace.
New London had a tough road matchup with Van Buren, and couldn't quite muster a set against the Warriors. Van Buren took games 25-23, 25-21 and 25-12.
Addie Pry and Kaylor Schulte both reached double digits in kills. Pry led the team with 14, and Schulte finished with 11.
Chloe Coleman led the defense with 27 digs. Kristen Rohdy filled the stat sheet with 27 assists and 25 digs.
The Tigers were 50-55 on the serve with three aces. Coleman went 13-13 with an ace to lead the way, and both Pry and Alexa Wenger picked up aces in the loss.
WACO's plates were certainly full, hosting SEISC tournament champion Holy Trinity Catholic. The Warriors were swept 25-10, 25-10 and 25-14.
Nadiyah Brown and Kristen Conley had four kills each to lead the team. Aubri Garnsey had 12 digs, and Laney Graber finished the night with 12 assists.
WACO went 29-33 on the serve in the loss. Lona Farrier was 8-8, and Garnsey went 7-7. The Warriors had no aces on the night.
