Small school volleyball pairings
Area small school volleyball teams learned their paths to the state tournament last week, when the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released its 2023 regional tournament brackets.
The area’s Class 1A teams were separated into Region 7 and Region 8. The area’s Class 2A teams are also split into Regions 7 and 8.
In Class 1A Region 7, Keota will take on Lone Tree in an opening-round matchup in Keota. The winners of those matches will go on to play against top-seeded North Tama in the next round.
WACO will host Iowa Valley in a first round matchup in Class 1A Region 7. If the Warriors move on, they will play either Central City or Springville.
On the other side of the Class 1A Region 7 bracket, Hillcrest Academy travels to English Valleys, and Highland goes to Wapello.
In Class 1A Region 8, Winfield-Mount Union will host Danville in the first round, with the winner likely taking on top-seeded Holy Trinity Catholic.
Also in Class 1A Region 8, Pekin will travel to Moravia, and New London will be at Notre Dame. The winner of those two matchups will face off in the second round.
Columbus was put into Class 2A Region 7. The Wildcats will be hosting an early round game against Alburnett. The winner of that matchup takes on top-seeded Denver.
Cardinal and Van Buren County are both in Class 2A Region 8. The Comets will have a home game to start things off, as Cardinal faces Central Decatur in an opening round matchup. Van Buren County will be on the road in the next round, where they will take on Wilton.
