WAYLAND — A handful of Union area boys track teams went at it at WACO High School on Tuesday as the Warriors’ hosted their home relays. I was balanced at the top of the standings, but New London had the best day of the Union schools, scoring 118 points, for third.
Cardinal finished fourth, with 113 points. WACO took fifth, with 105. Van Buren County scored an even 100 for sixth, and Winfield-Mount Union put up 77 points to tie for eighth.
The Tigers had a great night in the Class B races. New London had nine wins on the day.
Carter Allen dominated the throwing events to give the Tigers a pair of wins. Allen took both the shot put and discus.
Like Allen in the throws, Alexander Julian outclassed the field in the distance funning events. Julian won the 3200-meter run, and then took the 1600 as well, beating out teammate Rylan Martin, who finished second.
Other individual wins for New London went to Josh Catala in the 200-meter dash, Seth Bailey in the 800, and Kade Benjamin in the high jump.
The Tigers had two relay wins. The 4X200 team of Boden Pickle, Reean Seberg, Camden Kasel and Joel Lacy took gold, as did the distance medley squad of Catala, Benjamin, Martin and Seth Bailey.
Cardinal had four wins on the day in Class A. The Comets won four events, all sprints and hurdles.
Isaac Lett took the 200-meter dash for the Comets. Landon Becker won the 400-meter dash. Konner Sanders took gold in the 110-meter high hurdles, and Archer Metcalf won the 400-meter hurdles.
Van Buren County took three events on the day, two being relays. The distance medley squad of Dominic Meierotto, Owen Loeffler, Chase Clark and Jackson Manning took first in Class A. The shuttle hurdle team of Izaak Loeffler, Sam Warth, Isaiah Meek and Tyler Stoltz won as well.
Van Buren County’s lone individual win went to Tyler Stoltz, who won the high jump.

The Wolves had one relay win on the day. The 4X800 team of Noah Sparrow, Lane Scorpil, Kohlby Newsome and Hemsworth gave the Wolves a victory.
WACO had two Class B wins in its home meet. Zach Schmitz won the 110-meter high hurdles, and the spring medley squad of Cainan Lovan, Schmitz, Reece Oswald and Braden Spain had the Warriors’ only relay win.
