Small schools run at WACO
Columbus boys win at Warriors’ home relays, Van Buren County takes 3rd, 4th

WAYLAND - A handful of area teams met up at WACO last week for the Warriors’ home relays. Columbus, Van Buren County and the hosting Warriors all brought both the boys and girls teams to the meet, and the New London girls competed as well.
The Columbus boys were the big winners on the day. The Wildcats scored 110 points on the boys’ side to take first place. The Columbus girls took ninth.
Van Buren County had a couple of good outings, finishing third on the boys’ side and fourth on the girls’ side. WACO took fourth and boys and fifth in girls, and the New London girls finished eighth.
Columbus had three winners on the day, all on the boys’ side. The Wildcat boys took two individual races and one relay to own the night.
Kaden Amigon brought home first place in the 400-meter dash. Isaac Acotsa won the 800-meter run, beating out teammate Freddy Vergara in the process.
The lone Columbus relay team to win was the distance medley squad of Dyson Juhl, Andy Gonzales, Tyler Humeston and Acosta.
WACO had five wins altogether, three on the boys’ side and two on the girls’.
The WACO boys had two individual winners. Simeon Reichenbach won the 110-meter high hurdles, and Jonah Clark took first in the shot put.
WACO’s boys’ shuttle hurdle team of Zach Schmitz, Clayton Miller, Mason Miller and Simeon Reichenbach was victorious. The girls’ shuttle hurdle squad of Zoey Dennler, Maggie Rinner, Katie Leichty and Ally Rinner finished in first as well.
The WACO girls had one individual winner. Dennler took the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles to give the Warriors another hurdles victory.
Van Buren County had three wins on the day, two for the boys and one for the girls.
The VBC boys’ team swept the jumping events. Wyatt Mertens won the long jump, beating out teammate Anthony Duncan, who finished second. Tyler Stoltz won the high jump.
Van Buren County’s only win on the girls’ side came on a relay. The distance medley team of Callie Kracht, Kadence Nusbaum.
