WASHINGTON — Washington senior Lance Sobaski made his college choice official on Monday, signing with Wartburg College.
Sobaski signed on to run with the Knights surrounded by coaches and family. He says although it was a tough decision, he knows Wartburg is the right place to go.
“Wartburg just gives me that home feeling,” Sobaski said. “Nowhere compares to that. I go there and I feel it in my chest that I belong there.”
Sobaski has had a boatload of success in his high school running career. He led the Demons to a Southeast Conference championship during cross-country season and Washington is also the defending SEC track and field champion.
Sobaski himself is coming off an eighth-place finish at state cross-country. He plans on running both track and cross-country for the Knights.
Wartburg has a stellar record of its own. The Knights are coming off an outdoor national championship in 2021, and the cross-country team was ranked No. 1 for much of the season.
Sobaski plans on majoring in either biology or biochemistry when he gets to Waverly.
Sobaski says his time at Washington has helped him get ready for the next level, and credits his teammates for helping make him what he is today.
“They shape me, and they push me to do my best,” Sobaski said. “It's shaped me not just as a runner, but as an individual as well, to be a part of a team and be able to build something special. I want to be able to do that at the next level.”
