I would like to congratulate the U12 soccer team that participated in the Iowa Games in Ames this past weekend. They were coached by Felisto Guezimane and had a very successful weekend coming home with first place and the chance to represent Iowa in the nationals next year. It was very hot last weekend and these kids played to the best of their ability, didn?t complain about the heat, responded to the coach and it paid off with the championship.
The team consisted of: Brandon Winkelman, Tony Zapata, Eric Swan, Kolten Webber, Blu Schultz, Kristin Burnstedt, Jordan Guezimane, Shawn Spurrier, Saleem Burks, Hunter Drish, Cooper Drish and Jose Rojo.
It was an awesome weekend for all of us that accompanied them. It?s Iowa?s own Olympics and it was a good experience for everyone.
This team has been coached all year by either Felisto or Roeland Hekker and I would like to personally thank them for all the countless hours spent with the kids. And more thanks to their wives for giving up family time in evenings and on weekends. We have had great coaching and behind them were the ladies supporting their dreams. Thank you!
I hope that soccer has more coverage in the coming years. It is an aggressive, fast moving and rewarding sport and we have a very good soccer association in Fairfield with a lot of volunteers and talented coaches.
The team will be having fundraisers to help offset expenses for next year?s trip to Nationals in California. Please help support these kids and cheer them on for their next endeavor.
