Softball postseason continues

While area softball teams have finished playing this year, there are some notable scores to record.

While Washington's Class 4A postseason ended with a 3-1 loss to Iowa City Liberty, the Lightning won their next game, routing No. 11 Cedar Rapids Xavier 11-0 in five innings with eight first-inning runs.

The Lighning (21-21) advance to play No. 5 Independence (29-11) for a state tourney berth.

Highland's Class 2A postseason ended with a 4-3 loss to Van Buren, which then lost to Pekin. Pekin (19-13) plays Wapello (16-12) for the right to play in the state tournament.

Mid-Prairie's 3A postseason ended with a loss to No. 11 Solon (23-15), which plays No. 13 Mt. Vernon (26-11) for the right to go to state.
