Softball roundup: Comets push past Panthers, Mid-Prairie nearly upsets Wilton

The Cardinal and Pekin softball teams met up in a rivalry clash in Packwood, Mid-Prairie nearly pulled a big upset and Columbus faced the rath of West Burlington in Wednesday’s nonconference slate.
Cardinal 8, Pekin 2
Cardinal raced past rival Pekin in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover game.
Emma Becker had a big night for Cardinal, going 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Maddy Lawson went deep on the night, going 1-for-4 with a solo home run, and Nicoa McClure struck out seven batters in the circle.
Pekin’s Kyli Fitzsimmons was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Claire Roth went 1-for-3 with RBI.

No. 5 (2A) Wilton 8, Mid-Prairie 7
The Golden Hawks nearly upset the fifth-ranked Beavers, but Wilton scored three runs in the seventh inning to walk-off the Golden Hawks.
The game was tied 3-3 heading into the top of the sixth inning, but Mid-Prairie scored four in the sixth to take a 7-3 advantage. Wilton got one back in the bottom of the sixth and stunned the Golden Hawks in the seventh.
No. 8 (3A) WB/ND 13, Columbus 0
West Burlington-Notre Dame was too much for Columbus in a SEISC crossover game. The hosting Wildcats were held to just two hits by Falcon standout Lauren Summers.
Jocelyn Fulton was 1-for-1 for Columbus in the loss. Sera Vela went 1-for-2, and both Victoria Howell and Lacet Quiroz drew walks.
