Softball roundup: Fairfield picks up pair of wins

Fairfield 3, Louisa-Muscatine 0
Fairfield scored one in the second and one more in both the fifth and sixth innings to down Louisa-Muscatine on Saturday in the Oskaloosa Softball Tournament.
Coty Engle and Laney Norris both notched two hits in the game.
Savannah Hollander and Leah Helmick also had two RBIs.
Engle threw a no-hitter in the game, giving up one walk with 13 strikeouts.
Fairfield 4, Collins-Maxwell 1
Fairfield picked up its second win of the Oskaloosa Tournament with a victory over Collins-Maxwell.
Coty Engle finished 2-for-3 in the game.
Olivia Hollander and Lilly Bergren both had a hit and an RBI.
Faith Jones finished with one hit as well.
Engle and Laney Norris both pitched in the game. Engle went two innings striking out five.
Norris pitched four innings, allowing one run (one earned) on seven hits.
Cardinal 8, North Mahaska 2
Cardinal led North Mahaska 7-0 after five innings on Thursday.
That would be more than enough to push the Comets past the Warhawks.
Kinsey Hissem and Nicoa McClure both finished with a pair of RBIs in the win.
Ava Ferrell, Summer LaRue and Ashlynn Patrick each had an run batted in as well.
McClure took the victory in the circle giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and 13 strikeouts.
Cardinal 13, New London 1
Cardinal led New London 9-0 after three innings on Saturday in their own Cardinal Invitational Tournament.
The Tigers score one in the top of the fourth, but it wouldn’t be enough.
Emma Becker, Brinlee Ostrander, Kinsey Hissem, Cynthia Albert and Summer LaRue all had two hits in the game.
Becker, Ostrander and Albert each had two RBIs as well.
McClure gave up one run (one earned) on five hits and five strikeouts.
Cardinal 9, Pella Christian 8
Cardinal and Pella Christian were knotted at 7-7 after the sixth inning and into the eighth on Saturday, but Cardinal went on to score a pair in the bottom of the inning to walk it off.
Brinlee Ostrander finished with four hits in the game and two RBIs.
Kinsey Hissem had a pair of hits and three RBIs.
Nicoa McClure, Ava Ferrell and Cynthia Albert each had a hit and an RBI as well.
McClure and Ferrell both pitched in the game. The two gave up a combined seven runs (six earned) on 16 hits with six strikeouts.
Columbus 15, Winfield-Mt. Union 0
Columbus scored all 15 runs through three innings on Thursday to pick up a win over WMU.
Lily Coil went 3-for-3 in the win with three RBIs.
Lizzie Gerot and Jocelyn Fulton both had a pair of hits and an RBI.
Ellie Sanders, Kennedy Woepking and Aracely Garza all had two RBIs as well.
Coil gave up one hit in the game with five strikeouts.
Columbus 6, Louisa-Muscatine 34
Columbus was down to Louisa-Muscatine 3-2 after the first inning on Friday, but the Wildcats went on to scored four the rest of the way out.
Kennedy Woepking had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Wildcats.
Ellie Sanders, Lily Coil and Sera Vela each had a pair of hits. Sanders and Vela each had an RBI as well.
Woepking pitched, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits.
Hillcrest Academy 14, Pekin 10
Hillcrest Academy led Pekin 6-2 after two innings and 10-5 after six, but the Panther never gave up.
After four runs in the seventh by the Ravens, the Panthers scored five in the bottom of the inning, but that’s all they could get.
For Hillcrest Academy, Malia Yoder and Delaney Shaw both had four hits. Shaw had three RBIs as well.
Erin Bontrager finished with two hits and two RBIs. Claire Withrow had a pair of RBIs as well.
Yoder pitched a complete game giving up 10 runs (four earned) on 10 hits and seven strikeouts.
For Pekin, Kendyl Noel had three hits and an RBI.
Katelynn Schultz, Myah Bainbridge, Payten Coleman and Sadie Sieren all had two hits. Bainbridge finished with a pair of RBIs as well.
Van Buren County 18, Danville 2
Van Buren County scored four runs in the first, three in the third and 11 in the fourth to down the Bears on Friday.
Ashlynn Huff had three hits and one RBI for the Warriors.
Jade Balmer, Callie Kracht and Ivy Davison all had two hits. Balmer ended with four RBIs, Kracht two and Davison two
Sophia Jirak finished with a pair of RBIs too as well as Annabelle Cormier.
Ally Campbell and Addison Brauns both pitched for the Warriors.
They gave up a combined five hits, two runs (one earned) and five strikeouts.
New London 13, Mediapolis 1
New London picked up a huge win over Mediapolis on Thursday.
The Tigers scored two in both the second and third inning with nine more in the fourth to down the Bulldogs.
Highland 13, Winfield-Mt. Union 1
Highland scored 10 runs in the first inning and three more in the second to win over WMU on Friday.
Payton Brun led the Huskies with a hit and three RBIs.
Sarah Burton and Abbi Stransky both had two hits and two RBIs.
Jessica Kraus gave up one run (zero earned) on two hits with three strikeouts.
For WMU, Anna Anderson and Keely Malone each had one hit.
Mid-Prairie 3, No. 1 Regina Catholic 2
Mid-Prairie down No. 1 Regina Catholic on Thursday night.
The Golden Hawks scored one in the second, fourth and fifth to win it.
Hannah Sellers had two hits and an RBI to lead the Golden Hawks.
Olivia Swartzendruber had a hit as well.
Sydney Knebel gave up two hits (two earned) on five hits and five strikeouts.
Hillcrest Academy 16, Danville 9
Danville and Hillcrest Academy were tied at 5-5 after two innings of action, but the Ravens went on to score 11 the rest of the way.
Kylee Statler had three hits and one RBI in the win.
Malia Yoder, Delaney Shaw, Erin Bontrager and Lydia Beachy all had two hits.
Beachy finished with three RBIs as well as Bontrager and Yoder.
Claire Withrow had a hit and two RBIs too.
Mid-Prairie 6, Columbus Catholic 4
Mid-Prairie scored four in the third and two more in the seventh to get past Columbus Catholic on Saturday.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 4, Cardinal 1
Cardinal trailed EBF just 3-1 after four inning on Friday, but the Comets could never find the runs to get back into it.
Nicoa McClure led Cardinal with three hits in the game and one RBI.
Emma Becker, Kinsey Hissem, Cynthia Albert and Summer LaRue each had a hit as well.
McClure gave up four runs (four earned) on 11 hits and four strikeouts.
Central Lee 8, Van Buren County 1
Van Buren County led Central Lee 1-0 for five innings, but the Hawks scored three in the sixth and five in the seventh to win it.
Sophia Jirak had two hits to lead the Warriors. Ashlynn Huff, Kylee Roan, Jade Balmer, Ally Campbell and Lexie Wiley all had a hit as well.
Wapello 3, Highland 1
Wapello led 3-0 after the third inning on Thursday.
Highland was able to get one back in the top of the sixth, but that was as close as they could get.
Sarah Burton, Lilly Barre, Abbi Stransky and Jessica Kraus all had a hit in the game. Stransky had the lone RBI.
Fort Dodge 9, Mid-Prairie 0
Sydney Knebel had each of the Golden Hawks two hits in the their loss to Fort Dodge at the Dodger Invite on Friday.
Central Springs 9, Mid-Prairie 0
Iowa Valley 22, Keota 2
Iowa Valley scored 15 in the first inning and seven more in the second to down Keota on Friday.
Pella Christian 7, New London 0
Wapello 14, Hillcrest Academy 0
Wapello scored five in the first, four in the second and five more in the third to defeat Hillcrest Academy on Friday.
English Valleys 10, Hillcrest Academy 0
Malia Yoder had both of the Ravens hits in their shutouts loss to the Bears on Saturday.
