A high-scoring showdown between Pekin and New London-Winfield-Mount Union highlighted Monday night’s small school softball action.
Pekin 11, New London-WMU 7
The Panthers staved off a late Tiger comeback to win a Southeast Iowa Super Confernce crossover game.
New London was down eight runs going into the final at-bat, and cut that lead in half, with four. Pekin, however, held on for the win.
Anna Hadley had two hits and two RBIs for Pekin. Myah Bainbridge finished with two hits, and Kenadie Long knocked in two runs.
Danville 6, Hillcrest Academy 0
Hillcrest finished with just four hits in a crossover loss to Danville. Malia Yoder went 3-for-3 with a double in the loss.
West Burlington-Notre Dame 10, Highland 0
Highland’s Kamryn Fink had a double and three stolen bases, but the Huskies couldn’t get any other hits in a 10-run loss.
Mid-Prairie 12, West Branch 3
The Golden Hawks scored nine runs in the final three innings to put away the Bears in River Valley South action.
No. 15 (3A) Chariton 5, Cardinal 1
Cardinal took their third loss against a ranked Class 3A opponent, falling in a South Central Conference clash.
It was Cardinal’s first SCC loss of the year. The Comets are 2-1 in league play.
