KEOSAUQUA — The Comets were streaking. The Comets were hot. Cardinal had a seven-game winning streak going, but it’s tough to maintain a streak when a team has just two base runners in a game.
Chelsey Huff broke that winning streak with her own streak of not allowing a hit to the visitors. It was her second no-hitter of the season, and Van Buren County certainly needed it against the Super Conference South Division rival Cardinal Comets.
Huff, who has a record of 10-3, helped the 13th-ranked (Class 2A) Warriors to a 1-0 victory over the Comets. A walk and an error allowed the two Comets on to the base paths.
Cala Smith batted in the game’s only score in the sixth inning. VBC is 17-4 overall, 4-2 in the South. The Cardinal loss ended its winning streak at seven games, putting its record at 10-9, 6-3.
The shutout put Huff’s earned run average at 1.19, fourth in the class. Her walks plus hits per innings pitched (WHIP) is 0.77, third in 2A. She struck out 11, giving her 129, which is seventh in 2A. She passed 300 career strikeouts last week.
Huff went 1-for-3, giving her a batting average of .554, 11th in 2A. Her 14 doubles are first and her slugging percentage of 1,000 is tied for fourth.

Anderson helped her cause with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate that resulted in two RBIs. Emma Haines had an RBI and Molly Miller slapped a double for the Wolves (14-3, 10-2)
