Warriors blow past Tigers
KEOSAUQUA - It was all Van Buren County in a showdown of Union area coverage teams. The Warriors handed New London its first Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division loss, and did it in style, winning 13-1 in four innings.
The Warriors piled on six runs in the first frame to put New London's backs against the wall early. After a Tiger run in the top of the second, VBC put up the next seven.
Ella Jirak went a perfect 3-for-3 with three singles and an RBI in the win. Lexi Jirak was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Ally Cambell went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Chelsey Huff was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Isabel Manning, Kadence Nusbaum and Brooklyn Cormier each knocked one run in.
Huff was fantastic in the circle, giving up just one unearned run on three hits. She struck out three batters over her four innings.
New London picked up hits from Claire Jones, Alexa Wenger and Kara Krieger. Jones finished the night with an RBI.
Elly Manning took the loss for New London, giving up eight runs (four earned) on 10 hits and one hit batter over two innings. Sophie Mallot gave up five earned runs over one and two-thirds innings. The Tigers are still playing short-handed due to a quarantine.

Leah Bontrager took the loss. Esther Hughes, Sarah Miller, Norah Yoder, Meredith Blossom, Yani Gutierrez and Grace miller each had a hit for Hillcrest.
Comets shut down in Albia
ALBIA - Cardinal fell victim to a slow start defensively against a tough Albia squad. The Blue Demons put up 11 runs in the first inning, all the runs they'd score that night, and put Cardinal in an unescapable hole early.
Cardinal scored one run in the top of the fifth, but htat wasn't enough to keep the game going, and the Blue Demons picked up their 14th win in 15 tries, snapping Cardinal's three-game winning streak in the process.
