Softball roundup: Washington completes comeback

Washington 10, Columbus 6
Washington trailed Columbus 4-1 after the top of the third inning on Wednesday, but the Demons went on to score two in the bottom half of the inning and then seven more through the next three innings to get past Columbus.
The Wildcats went scoreless after their four run third and finished with a two run sixth, but it was enough to get by the Demons.
Emery Walton led the Demons with three hits and two RBIs in the win.
Rylee Libe and Leighton Salazar finished with two hits each. Libe ended with two RBIs as well.
Colbie Greiner and Kendall Hinrichsen each had one hit.
Lauren Hinrichsen, Isabella Salazar and Ella Greiner each had one RBI.
In the circle, Isabella Salazar pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits, six runs, four earned and seven strikeouts.
For Columbus, Lily Coil had three hits and three RBIs in the loss.
Sera Vela finished with two hits. Ellie Sanders, Victoria Howell and Bailey Rice all had one hit. Howell had one RBI as well.
Coil and Kennedy Woepking pitched, combining for eight hits, 10 runs, four earned and two strikeouts.
Winfield-Mt. Union 28, Pekin 27
Winfield-Mt. Union and Pekin had quite the battle on Tuesday.
After three innings, the Panthers led 16-9. Both teams went scoreless through the fourth and Pekin added seven more runs in the top half of the fifth.
WMU answered back with a 10 run bottom of the fifth to make it 23-19.
Heading into the seventh, Pekin held a 27-20 lead.
The Wolves went on to score eight runs in the seventh to complete the comeback.
For WMU, Quin Smith led with six hits and seven RBIs. Keely Malone followed with five hits and eight RBIs.
Pekin was paced by Quinnlyn Baker, Myah Bainbridge and Anna Hadley all with four hits. Baker had four RBIs to lead.
Cardinal 3, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 1
Cardinal’s two run first inning was enough to down the Rockets on Wednesday.
The Rockets scored one in the third, but never scored again.
Cardinal went on to add an additional run in the sixth as insurance.
Brinlee Ostrander and Kinsey Hissem both had two hits in the win. Hissem also had an RBI.
Emma Becker, Cynthia Albert and Summer LaRue all had one hit. LaRue and Ava Ferrell each finished with an RBI.
Nicoa McClure pitched for Cardinal. She gave up five hits, one run and had five strikeouts.
Mid-Prairie 12, Keokuk 8
Mid-Prairie never trailed against Keokuk on Tuesday.
The Golden Hawks led the Chiefs 9-3 after five innings.
After the top of the seventh, the Golden Hawks made it 12-3.
Keokuk scored five in the bottom half of the inning, but it wouldn’t be enough.
Hannah Sellers led with four hits in the game. She also had two RBIs.
Dakota Mitchell and Sydney Knebel each finished with three hits as well. Knebel had two RBIs and Mitchell one.
Sigourney 11, Keota 1
Keota scored one run in the first inning against Sigourney on Wednesday, but would never score again as the Savages scored seven in their half of the first and four more in the fourth.
Louisa-Muscatine 8, Highland 7
Highland suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday with a loss to Louisa-Muscatine.
