Softball stars make All-State lists

The Iowa Girls Coaches Association released its 2025 All-State softball lists last week, and the area was well represented, especially by those who had just wrapped up their seasons at the state tournament in Fort Dodge.

Both Washington and Highland put two players on the All-State lists. In both cases, it was the leadoff and second batter in the lineup.

The Demons had two players make the Class 3A first team. Leadoff hitter Leighton Salazar made the list in her junior year, and senior Ella Greiner joined her on the first team. Washington was one of five Class 3A teams to land two players on the top squad.

Making it for Highland was freshman leadoff hitter Kamryn Fink, as well as lone senior Lilly Barre, who often batted right behind Fink in the lineup.

Fink was named to the Class 1A first team. Barre represented the Huskies on the second team.

The Union area had two players make the All-State list in Class 2A, and both wound up on the second team list. Both Lily Coil of Columbus, and Ashlynn Huff of Van Buren County were honored with second-team nods.

Fairfield sophomore Leah Helmick made her debut on the All-State list, landing on the Class 3A third team for the Trojans.

Also making the list was Hillcrest Academy senior Delaney Shaw. Shaw landed on the Class 1A third team, giving the Union coverage area a third Class 1A honoree.
