Southeast Conference boys basketball is back in action on Friday night as the quest for the conference title continues to dwindle down.
Currently, one team holds a two-game lead on the rest of the field, but the middle of the pack is wide-open.
Mt. Pleasant (5-0, 8-3) is the top seed as its stands. The Panthers have yet to lose a conference game and have won seven straight games. They will look to continue that streak when they welcome Burlington (2-3, 2-8) to town on Friday.
It’s a rematch of the first conference game of the season between the Panthers and Grayhounds. The last time the two squads met on the hardwood, Mt. Pleasant took the bout 65-53.
Mt. Pleasant enters off a win over Wilton, 64-60, on Monday night, while Burlington enters off a loss to Cedar Rapids Washington, 59-47.
The Demons of Washington (2-3, 4-6) have some work to do to get back into the top of the rankings, but can shake things up on Friday evening with a game against Keokuk (3-1, 7-3), who is currently seeded second.
Keokuk has played one less conference game due to weather. The last time the Demons and Chiefs went head-to-head, Keokuk took the win handily, 64-37.
In Washington most recent game, it was defeated by Burlington, 72-58.
As for Fairfield (0-5, 1-10), it’s been a tough road thus far in conference play. The Trojans have yet to find a conference win and Fort Madison (2-2, 4-5) awaits on Friday.
The pairs last meeting ended with the Bloodhounds on top, 77-48. That game was played on December 1.
Currently, the Trojans are on a 10 game losing streak with their latest loss coming against Mt. Pleasant on Friday, 64-43.
