The Southeast Conference girls’ basketball season is going by quick as SEC squads are now meeting for the second time this season.
Keokuk (4-0, 11-1) holds the conference lead at the moment and has been playing some great ball against its fellow SEC squads.
Washington (3-2, 6-5) sits in one of the best positions to make a leap in the standings, but Fort Madison (3-1, 8-2) and Burlington (3-2, 6-6) all have three wins as well.
A great start toward making a run at the league title in the second half of the season could begin on Friday when the Demons head South to face the Chiefs.
The last time the two teams clashed on Dec. 1, Keokuk walked away with a 60-32 win, but Washington has been putting together some great performances as of late.
In their last game, the Demons topped Burlington at home, 60-50. Before that they came up just short to Fort Madison, 56-49.
Mt. Pleasant (1-4, 3-9) grabbed its first conference victory on Friday night against Fairfield (0-5, 2-9).
However, the Panthers still need to grab a slew of wins through the second half of the season to get back into the upper echelon of the league. With a win against Burlington on Friday, the Panthers would be heading in the right direction.
The last time the Panthers and Grayhounds played, Mt. Pleasant led at the half, 20-17, but Burlington went on to win it 62-38.
Fairfield it still looking for its first conference win of the season. Following the down to the wire overtime loss to Mt. Pleasant on Friday, it doesn’t get any easier.
The Trojans will play host to Fort Madison in their next conference matchup. The Bloodhounds have won three in a row and defeated the Trojans 55-19 in their last meeting.
Southeast Conference girls’ standings
Keokuk 4-0
