SOLON — In a nonconference baseball game moved from Washington to Solon Tuesday due to rains, the Demons were the first to score but lost to the Spartans 5-1.
Washington, which has a record of 15-13, pushed a run across in the third inning with Wilx Witthoft getting the RBI. Solon (27-11) answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the fourth.
The Demons had five hits and two were doubles by Lucas Kroll. Solon had five hits — three were by Blake Timmons — and four were doubles. Ethan Zieglowsky, Reece Mayer and Kole Williams had the other Washington hits.
Travis Leyden took the loss with three hits and three runs allowed. He struck out two Spartans. Isaac Vetter and Mayer also pitched for Washington. Mayer had three strikeouts and a hit while Vetter gave up a hit and two runs.
Each team left six on base. There were no errors.
Washington hosts Clear Creek-Amana (15-16) Friday in the opening game of the Class 3A postseason.
