Freshmen football

The Fairfield freshmen football team lost to Albia Tuesday 34-32.

Quarterback Cam Baumann rushed for 168 yards on 18 carries. He scored three touchdowns and also punched in two of Fairfield?s four 2-point conversions. Baumann also threw for 58 yards.

Brandon Smithburg ran for 96 yards and scored a touchodwn of his own. Josh Osby had two catches and earned all 58 of the team?s receiving yards.

Defensively, Michael Fritz led the team with eight tackles. Osby and Baumann each had four.

Austin Winslow caught an interception.

Bowling results

The Braves and Maidens bowling league has begun and these are the first results.

In team play, team Cheyenne finished first and went 4-0. Kiowa went 3-1, Mohicans 3-1, Hopi 3-1, Navahoe 2-2 and the Sioux also recorded a 2-2 record. Team Commanche went 1-3, while teams Shawnee, Chippewa and Iroquois were all winless.

Frank Chatfield recorded the highest individual game when he bowled a 211. Melinda Chatfield bowled a 195 to lead the ladies side.

Fairfield?s Finest 5k

The Fairfield?s Finest 5k run/walk will be Sept. 14 at Chautauqua Park in Fairfield.

The event is open to all ages. Check-in is at 9:30 a.m. and the race starts at 10 a.m. The entry fee is $20. All proceeds go to the Fairfield Police Department Police Association and the Jefferson County Reserves.

Participants are allowed to run the 5k or go at their own speed just one mile for fun. Top finishers will receive a medal. Refreshments will be provided.
