Warriors defeat Pioneers 87-43
The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment boys? basketball team could not keep up with Van Buren and was defeated 87-43 Tuesday at the Maharishi Fieldhouse.
After losing to Van Buren 107-25 earlier this season, MSAE dealt with the full court pressure brought on by the Warriors much better.

Warriors defeat Pioneers 87-43
The Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment boys? basketball team could not keep up with Van Buren and was defeated 87-43 Tuesday at the Maharishi Fieldhouse.
After losing to Van Buren 107-25 earlier this season, MSAE dealt with the full court pressure brought on by the Warriors much better.
Surya Sawhney finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Suraj Pullapantula scored nine points and had three assists.
Will Mertens scored 26 points to lead the Warriors. Brandon Plecker and Tanner Smith both scored 14 points.
Both teams will play in the SEISC Shootout games on Friday. Van Buren (17-2) will play against IMS, while MSAE (3-15) will host Columbus.
Freshmen girls beat Chariton
The Fairfield freshmen girls? basketball team defeated Chariton 49-46 Tuesday.
Brooke McLain led Fairfield with 18 points. Kaylee Watson scored 11. Kenady Waugh got on the board with eight points, while Haley Beard chipped in five.
Eighth-grade games stack up
The Fairfield Middle School eighth-grade boys? basketball A team lost Thursday to Mt. Pleasant 57-31.
Kolton Webber led the Trojans with 18 points and eight rebounds. James Lyman scored seven points and got four assists. Steeler Higdon finished with four points and four rebounds.
The B team lost 41-15. Hunter Drish led the team with four points. The C team also could not take down the Panthers, falling 24-14. Dakota Storta put in seven points and Finigan Malloy scored five points.
The Trojans would bounce back however, beating Burlington Aldo Leopold 52-36 Monday. Webber was a machine, scoring 29 points and grabbing 17 rebounds. Lyman scored 12 points and dished out five assists. Blue Schultz scored four points.
The B team won 14-11. Jimmy Kurka scored seven points to lead the squad.
The Fairfield A team also won Tuesday by defeating Keokuk 45-26. Webber had another dominant game, finishing with 18 points, nine rebounds, nine steals and three assists. Lyman scored 15 points and Higdon put in 11 points.
?Our press was really good tonight,? coach Tony Vandegriff said. ?We forced Keokuk into 25 turnovers and that helped us win.?
Keokuk would win the B team game 26-14. Brendon Higgins led Fairfield with six points.
FMS girls take down Keokuk
The Fairfield Middle School seventh-grade girls? basketball A team beat Keokuk 35-30 Tuesday in Fairfield.
The Trojans went on a 23-4 run during the game which gave them a 27-14 lead. Keokuk made a run of their own but it was too late.
?Even though Keokuk hit some shots at the end, our defense was the best it has been all year,? coach Derek Philips said. ?We also took some great shots and got a few fast break points. It was a really nice game for us.?
Ashley Bloomquist scored 13 points. Olivia Roberts scored eight and Kara Jeffrey put in six points.
The Fairfield B team won 23-10. Jaiden Hainline led Fairfield in scoring with six points. Ellie Baker and Mia Ellis both scored four points.
The girls play again Thursday at home against Burlington Aldo Leopold.
