COLUMBUS JUNCTION — Spring weather supplied large numbers of competitors and spectators for Night No. 3 of the CJ Speedway 2021 season.
Friday’s final feature, Mincer Ford IMCA Stock Cars, entertained the large crowd with outstanding racing. Jason See scored his second feature win of the season coming from the 11th starting position to overtake leader John Hemstead past the midway point. David Brandies advanced from 10th to give See a late challenge but finished second. Hemstead took third ahead of 2019 CJ Speedway Stock Car track champion Johnny Spaw.
The Stewart & Sons Fuel IMCA Modified feature belonged to Kurt Kile, who took advantage of a front row start and led flag to flag. Jarrett Brown advanced from the fifth row to battle Kile late but settled for second. Derrick Stewart took third after starting 10th.
The Huston Brothers IMCA Sportmods saw Shane Paris race to the front of 19 drivers from the sixth row. Todd Hansen, who just recently resumed racing after several years away, showed no signs of being rusty with solid driving to place second.
Jake Benischek took two feature’s checkered flags with victories in the CJ Auto Parts/NAPA Store Hobby Stocks race and the Midwest Towing IMCA Sport Compacts main event.
Advancing from ninth, Benischek outlasted Christian Grady and Cody Van Dusen in the Compact win. The race was red flagged for a serious fire involving the 23h car of Alex Hayes, who escaped uninjured.
Rick VanDusseldorp and Aaron Martin provided the challenge to Benischek in the Hobby Stocks.
Racing will continue at the CJ Speedway, located on the Louisa County Fairgrounds in Columbus Junction Friday, with hot laps at 7:15 p.m.
