DES MOINES — Mid-Prairie freshman Jayden Stafford couldn’t have been more thrilled after his first ever race on the blue oval.
Stafford burst onto the scene in the 400-meter wheelchair competition. He cruised to a second-place finish in the event, crossing the line in 1 minute, 11.07 seconds.
“It went way better than I wanted it to,” Stafford said. “I couldn't have asked for a better environment.”
Stafford’s time was a new personal record.
“I see it as an honor,” Stafford said. “My family came out to support, and they wanted me to go as hard as I could from the beginning and see where I get.”
Stafford beat out three other competitors for first. The top time went to senior Wyatt Willand of Northwood-Kensett.
