State baseball day two roundup
Class 2A and 4A open up tournament play

With Class 1A and 3A state baseball kicking off on Monday, Tuesday marked the beginning of tournament play for Class 2A and 4A.
In Class 2A at Merchants Park in Carroll, No. 1 Beckman Catholic and No. 8 Pella Christian gave fans an exciting first game.
Tied at 4-4 after seven innings, Beckman Catholic was able to get the walk-off win 5-4 in the eighth.
In the second game of the day, No. 4 West Lyon edged No. 5 Van Buren County 6-5. The Wildcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead before the Warriors cut it to one, but they could never find the game tying runs.
No. 3 Cascade held off No. 6 Woodward-Granger 7-6.
The Hawks cut it to one in the sixth, but the Cougars were able to get three outs in the seventh.
In the final game of the evening, No. 2 Underwood handled No. 7 Williamsburg 7-2.
Underwood and Cascade will open semifinal play on Thursday at 4:30.
Beckman Catholic and West Lyon will close with a semifinal matchup at 7 p.m.
In Class 4A at Duane Banks Baseball Stadium in Iowa City, No. 1 Johnston flew by No. 8 Iowa City Liberty 9-3.
The Dragons and Lightning were tied at 1-1 after one inning, but Johnston scored eight between the fourth and sixth.
No. 4 Dowling Catholic held off No. 5 Dallas Center-Grimes for a 4-3 victory.
The Maroons led 4-1 heading into the fifth. DCG scored two in the sixth, but Dowling was able to hang on.
No. 6 Cedar Falls dominated No. 3 Southeast Polk in their quarterfinal matchup.
The Tigers led 9-0 after three innings and never looked back.
Another big upset came against No. 2 Iowa City High and No. 7 Ames.
The Little Cyclones stunned the Little Hawks 9-7.
After the top of the seventh, Ames led 9-2. Iowa City High scored five in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all they could muster.
Johnston and Dowling Catholic will play for a spot in the title game at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
Ames will take on Cedar Fall at 7:30 p.m.
