State baseball update
4A, 3A, 2A, 1A state semifinal rounds set

The Iowa High School Athletic Association’s 2024 IHSAA State Baseball Championships are in full swing.
After two full days of competition, the state semifinals matchups are now set across all four classes.
In Class 4A, Cedar Rapids Kennedy (34-4) defeated Pleasant Valley (20-18) in the opening round.
The Cougars trailed the Spartans 3-2 after five and a half innings, but scored four in the bottom of the sixth to win it.
Kennedy will take on Johnston (34-5) in the state semifinals. The Dragons edged Waukee Northwest (26-15) with a walk off winner in the bottom of the seventh.
In the bottom half of the bracket, Dowling Catholic (24-15) upset Dallas Center-Grimes (35-4) 3-1.
The Maroons await the winner of Iowa City High (33-7) and Waukee (26-16). That game was postponed until Wednesday.
In 3A, top seeded Wahlert Catholic (34-9) survived Central DeWitt (25-13) 1-0.
The Golden Eagles will take on Bishop Heelan (33-10) for a chance to get to the state title. The Crusaders defeated Pella (27-10) 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
Second seeded Marion (32-5) took care of business in its first matchup, beating Center Point-Urbana (29-9) 12-2.
The Wolves get North Polk (27-6) in the semifinals. North Polk enters that matchup after topping Harlan (27-9) 5-4.
The Comets scored a pair of runs in the seventh to get by the Cyclones.
In Class 2A, top seeded Underwood (28-2) downed Unity Christian (25-12) 3-1. All Three of Underwood’s runs came in the second inning.
Underwood will get Chariton (25-4) in the semifinals. The Chargers are a game from a title shot after defeating Pleasantville (23-11) 7-1.
New Hampton (28-6) won big over Aplington-Parkersbug (18-8) to earn a spot in the semifinals. The Chickasaws defeated the Falcons 11-1, scoring nine runs in the sixth inning.
The Chickasaws will take on Sumner-Fredericksburg (24-4) in round two. The Cougars got by Wilton (21-11) 6-2.
Finally, it Class 1A No. 1 Akron-Westfield escaped Bedford (20-11) 3-2. The Westerners scored a run in the ninth to get by.
They will take on Lynnville-Sully (27-3) in the semifinals. The Hawks were 2-0 winners over Sigourney (21-5) in the quarterfinals.
On the other half of the 1A bracket, Newman Catholic (32-5) defeated South Winneshiek (24-10) 3-1 and Remsen St. Mary’s (24-4) bested North Linn (24-9) 10-6.
