WATERLOO — Washington’s Ethan Zieglowsky finished in the top half of the field at the Class 1A boys state bowling meet ON Tuesday.
Zieglowsky, who was one of four area qualifiers, finished the day at 637, good enough for 16th place.
The Demon senior started his day with a 185 but gradually got better as the day went on. He rolled a 215 in his second game and a 237 in his third to climb up the leaderboard. His third frame was third-best among the 32 competitors.
Unfortunately for Zieglowsky, he didn’t quite do enough to make the final eight, which are bracketed off tournament style to decide a champion. The leader after prelims was Central DeWitt’s Will Vanderbilt, with a 767, and the final transfer spot went to Maquoketa’s Lucas Ihrig, who bowled a 681.
Sigourney-Keota’s Brock Alderson, a Sigourney High student, qualified second with a 753 and made it all the way to the state championship. He was ousted by a red-hot Adam Denny of St. Albert, who beat him 270-181 in the final match.
Mt. Pleasant’s Cole Wohlleber and Eden Svoboda, as well as Fairfield’s Karen Ehret, are all bowling in Wednesday’s Class 2A tournament. As of press time, that event has not concluded. Results from 2A will be in Friday’s paper.
